Abstract

Purpose: This study explores the effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on marital satisfaction and reducing anxiety symptoms in couples referring to counseling and couples therapy centers in district 5, Tehran.


Methodology: The research method was applied in terms of purpose and semi-experimental in terms of method. The statistical population of this study includes 300 couples, who have marital problems, and have been referred to counseling centers and couples therapy clinics in district 5, Tehran. Of course, the criteria to determine these couples, in addition to having marital satisfaction problems, also involve having symptoms of stress. This research's statistical sample includes 30 people from these couples, who were selected using convenience sampling, and were finally assigned to two experimental (15 people) and control (15 people) groups. Research tools were ENRICH Marital Satisfaction Questionnaire (1988), Zong Anxiety Questionnaire (1978), and treatment protocol based on commitment and acceptance.


Findings: The findings of this study highlighted that Acceptance and Commitment Therapy was effective in marital satisfaction and reducing anxiety symptoms among couples referring to counseling and couples therapy centers in district 5, Tehran.


Conclusion: Therefore, based on the findings, the results of the covariance test also indicated that there is a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test in the experimental group, revealing the effect of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy
